ALIENS BEAMED DOWN A PHOTONICS KIT TO LITHUANIAN SCHOOL

After winning the Day of Photonics 2024 Championship, Alien Photonics team earned the unique opportunity and responsibility — to donate a Photonics Explorer Kit to School. Naturally, we chose to beam it down to a STEM-focused school in Lithuania: Švenčionėliai King Mindaugas Gymnasium, where it could truly make an impact. The kit was sponsored by CD6 – Centre for Sensors, Instruments and Systems Development and Fotónica 21,

Our CEO, visited the school personally to hand over the kit and conduct photonics experiments with a class full of future engineers.

What’s Inside the Photonics Kit?

Photonics Explorer was created in European collaboration by EYESTvzw, a Belgium based non-profit organization.

The kit includes:

  • Set of lasers and LED light sources
  • Educational lenses, polarizers, and filters
  • Other components for experiments (foils with (double) slit, optical fiber, gratings, ...)
  • Manual with easy setups for experiments in diffraction, interference, polarization, etc.

Many of these components are simplified versions of what Alien Photonics actually provides for universities, institutes and industry! Optical components such as laser optics, polarizers, and lenses are used to construct state-of-the-art lasers and conduct photonics research.

A Lithuanian School with a Passion for STEM

Just an hour drive from Vilnius, Lithuania’s capital, Švenčionėliai King Mindaugas Gymnasium is anything but ordinary. School is already equipped with:

  • Thunder Laser system capable of handling large projects
  • Laser engraving kits for school-based science projects
  • A robotics lab/class where students build and battle their own creations
  • The life sciences area with modern chemistry and biology tools
  • Even Designated cleanroom areas for laser processing

During the visit, students took part in guided experiments using the kit — observing diffraction patterns, adjusting laser beam focus, and testing polarization effects. The curiosity and enthusiasm in the classroom could’ve powered a starship.

Want a Photonics Kit for Your School?

The kit delivered to Švenčionėliai Gymnasium was our Day of Photonics prize, but similar Photonics Kits for Schools are available for educators! If you're a teacher, school, or STEM program organizer looking to introduce optics and lasers to your students -

Final Beam of Light

The students of Švenčionėliai King Mindaugas Gymnasium welcomed the Photonics Kit with curiosity, focus, and creativity. Whether they go on to become scientists, engineers, or space travelers, we’re proud to have shared a small piece of the photonics universe with them.
