Broadband Dielectric (BBHR) Mirrors: Function, production, customization
What is Broad Band Dielectric (BBHR) Mirror?
Main purpose of broad band dielectric (BBHR) mirror is to reflect broad range of wavelengths at designed angle of incidence (AOI). These mirrors have higher (better) reflection, compared to metallic (Gold, Silver, Aluminum) mirrors, but still lower than highly specialized custom laser line or custom double-band mirrors.
How broad band dielectric (BBHR) mirrors are made?
Borad band dielectric (BBHR) mirror is optical component coated with broad band thin film dielectric optical coatings. Alien Photonics BBHR mirrors are prepared in such way that is very similar to Laser line (HR) mirrors (such as Nd:YAG, Yb:YAG, Ti:Sapphire and double band (DBHR) mirrors (like Nd:YAG, Yb:YAG, Ti:Sapphire, and starts with optical substrate polishing and quality inspection. Optical coating is applied on the substrates after those procedures. BBHR coating design differs from other dielectric mirror coating, because the main goal is to achieve broad desired wavelength range, instead of optimizing for maximal reflection for specific one or two wavelengths. On the other hand, the coating design and procedure itself, follows similar steps.
Custom broad band (BBHR) mirrors
At Alien Photonics we can customize broad band (BBHR) mirrors according to your needs – small and large size - either diameter, squares, rectangular and custom shapes. Angle of incidence optimization can also be done depending on your application, not limited to usual normal incidence (0°) and also popular 45° or 56°, but we also offering more specific 8°, 12°, 22.5° and even very non-standard options available. Alien Photonics BBHR mirrors can also be designed for specific range of wavelengths making them even more universal solution. However, we would like to remind you that the broader the band and angle range, the harder is to keep very high reflection throughout the whole BBHR mirror range. Although, using at specific polarization, the reflection of BBHR mirror might be improved. Please check polarizing optics for ideas on how to incorporate broad-band PBS cubes or achromatic wavelpates in your system.

Broadband (BBHR) Mirror for research and development (R&D)
Want to build and present working prototype? Don’t waste money on several different custom mirrors. Proceed with pack of broad band (BBHR) mirrors from Alien Photonics, save money (pay for only one coating process), time and pain of searching for perfect component. When your device is ready for production, contact Alien Photonics for custom laser line and dual band mirrors.
BBHR mirors for broadband laser systems
When comparing to metallic mirrors, Alienb Photonics BBHR mirrors have higher reflection over wide wavelength range. This makes these mirrors are critical component in laser systems with multiple wavelengths and broad spectral outputs. In cimbination with other laser optics, polarizers and various lenses, broad band mirrors can be universal compoenent in complex systems, such as micromachining, bio-imaging and medical lasers and optical devices.
Broadband (BBHR) for fluorescence microscopes
By effectively reflecting wide range of wavelengths, Broad band (BBHR) mirrors enhance the image quality by maximizing the collection and delivery of fluorescent signals.
Broadband (BBHR) for Optical Parametric Oscillators (OPOs)
Alien Photonics BBHR mirrors allows the generation and effective tuning of various wavelengths in different applications: form laser surgery to spectroscopy, by reflecting wide range of wavelengths efficiently and optimizing output and efficiency of OPO devices.
Broadband (BBHR) mirrors for Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC)
Borad Band (BBHR) dielectric mirrors guide (route) and reflect light inside the optical circuits. It is relatively more difficult to apply coating on such small mirrors, Alien photonics recommendation is to coat larger mirror and then cut it down to smaller components.
Characteristics of standard broad band dielectric (BBHR) mirrors
Typically BBHR mirrors (unless otherwise specified in offer) are manufactured with bellow specifications. However, due to constant improvements, all parameters are subject to change.
